We named her Ahea Kali which is Hawaiian for "Why Wait". She's a beauty! Ahea Kali is a 45' Fuji Ketch Rigged Sailboat designed by John G. Alden. She was built in December, 1975 by Fuji Yachtbuilders in Kanagawa Pref, Yokosuka, Japan and is Hull #8 of a reported 27 total built. Check out the Fuji website at www.fujiyachts.net. VESSEL SPECIFICATIONS VESSEL NAME: "AHEA KALI" L.O.A.: 52' 00" ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS (NEW 2003) MANUFACTURER: Yanmar CYLINDERS: 4 cylinder GENERATOR (NEW) PHASER 3.5 KW Diesel Sound Shield TANKAGE DIESEL: 150 Gallons WATER: 215 Gallons WASTE: 23 Gallons DESCRIPTION/ACCOMMODATIONS Built in 1975 by Fuji of Japan, the vessel is a ketch rigged sailing auxiliary and is designed as an offshore and coastal cruising vessel. She has a 'traditional' hull underbody with full keel, and a keel hung rudder. She has a wineglass transom, clipper bow, a gracefully rising sheer line and moderate overhangs. Her deck areas include an open foredeck area with a modern traditional designed trunk cabin with access hatch forward and aft. The main companionway hatch is located at the center cockpit includes a large sliding hatch with removable hatch boards. The cockpit is large and self-bailing. Both masts are single spreader rigged, cabin stepped, recently painted with LP paint, and constructed of aluminum. Standing rigging is stainless steel 1 x 19 with Norseman fittings which are new. Self-tailing primary winches are provided for headsail operation. Also provided are deck winches, two mast winches. All new running rigging. Below decks the vessel provides sleeping accommodations for at least six in three cabins areas. Well forward is a chain locker and forward stateroom with crew berthing and a head. Directly aft is the head to port and hanging locker to starboard. Next aft is the main cabin with large u-shaped dinette/berth to port and settee/berth to starboard. The galley is located to port and navigation station/area to starboard. The engine room is accessed through a door located at the companionway that leads to the aft cabin. The aft cabin is provided with large California King berth and storage to starboard. The interior of the Fuji ketch 45 is lined in teak. Teak trim and quality joinery is professionally accomplished liberally along the interior hull areas. The vessel is provided a Teak and Holly floor. The vessel's hull is constructed of molded fiberglass reinforced plastic of varying thickness and heavy scantling. The decks are of sandwich construction of fiberglass reinforced plastic with a plywood core. Interior furnishings and joinery are fine quality teak and plywood. The hull to deck seam is formed into a strong bulwark fashion by overlapping the deck and hull, bonding, sealing and mechanically fastening the deck to the hull. Supporting bulkheads, longitudinal supports, floors and cabin furnishings are of plywood and/or other unspecified wood species and forms the internal framing and structuring of the vessel. Each is laminated to the hull along their respective lengths. The keel is a 'traditional' full keel with internally placed lead ballast (reported) fiberglassed over. The keel-mounted rudder is constructed of what appears to be heavy fiberglass with an unknown core. Through-hulls, the strut and propeller are of bronze. ELECTRICAL The vessel's electrical system includes a twelve-volt DC and a 110 AC system. The twelve-volt DC system is reported as divided into banks. House battery bank is comprised of (8) 6-volt GEL batteries connected in series. The engine and generator have separate twelve-volt GEL batteries. DC over current protection is accomplished through a breaker panel. An engine alternator and regulator, (2) Kyocera KC80 80-watt solar panels, and Xantrex Freedom 30 battery charger/inverter w/Link 2000 Monitoring combination maintain the system. Electrical wiring was noted to be insulated. The batteries were noted to be chocked and secured. All batteries are near new. The 110 AC system is overcurrent protected by way of a main breaker and a
subsidiary breaker panel. A 3000-watt inverter is provided for the house and a
Xantrex 400 inverter (pure sine wave) with two dedicated outlets for PC/TV and

Davit We have done SO much to the boat to get it ready!! We purchased the boat in 2002 down in Panama. Since then, we have done pretty much a total refit. There is very little that we haven't replaced, sometimes multiple times, or restored. We joked that we recycled the hull! Here's what she looks like today (Christmas 2007), at the docks in 2005 and in Panama in 2002. Lots more pictures are located in the Photos area..
